Hale Kealoha
In 2025, Hui Hoʻoleimaluō has yet again expanded, marking an exciting new chapter in the organization’s continued growth and impact. We are proud to announce the addition of a new property through partnership with the James Kealoha ʻOhana, reflecting both strategic planning and long-term vision. This milestone strengthens Hui Hoʻoleimaluō’s ability to serve the community while building lasting assets for the future. The new ʻāina ensures responsible stewardship while creating a clear path toward ownership. As we grow, we remain grounded in our mission and committed to sustainable, community-centered progress. This expansion represents not just growth in space, but growth in opportunity and possibility.
Wonder Boy
James Kimo Kealoha
(April 29, 1908 – August 24, 1983)
James Kimo Kealoha was a respected Hawaiian political leader whose life was rooted in Hawaii’s community . Born in Pāhoa to Lee Chau and Alice Makanui Kealoha, he was later raised by his grandparents whose name he later assumed. Coming from a strong Cantonese immigrant background, Kealoha developed a strong sense of responsibility to public service and the people of his Chinese and Hawaiian upbringing.
Kealoha later pursued education and law, which shaped his commitment to justice, leadership, and fair governance. Entering politics, Kealoha became known for his calm demeanor, integrity, and dedication to Native Hawaiian and local interests. Kealoha was often referred to as the "Wonder Boy” in Hawaii’s politics because he consistently won elections by sizable margins. His work helped guide Hawaiʻi through important periods of political and social transition.
Throughout his career, he balanced modern governance with deep respect for culture and values. Kealoha’s legacy in Hilo and across the state reflects a life devoted to service, humility, and steady leadership.
Reimagining a Space Built upon Compassion!
As James Kealoha and his ʻohana cherished this ʻāina, we hope to recreate that same value that poured into this property. Fruit trees, a Loko Hāpunapuna, and a hop skip jumping distance into the kai, Hale Kealoha as we’ve been affectionately calling it has already fed us in so many ways just this year alone. With great planning and dedication, we hope that we can welcome our community of near and far to this wonderful space soon
